Margriet Smulders (b.1955, Netherlands) - Siren Ink / Siren Milk (2010)
“Endless garlands of flowers curled around the borders of my note pads when I was a school girl. And thousands of roses were cut out from my mother’s gardening books. At the Academy of Arts, flowers as large as life were painted on my canvasses. There were always flowers. They flourished in the self-portraits of the eighties and grew bigger in the flower wallpapers made in the nineties.” Margriet Smulders is a Dutch photographer of floral still lifes. She attended the Radboud University Nijmegen from 1974 to 1983 and the Academy of Arts in Arnhem from 1979 to 1985. Many thanks to arpeggia for introducing us Margriet Smulders on the first Monday of 2013 :)

Ysabel LeMay (Canada) - Illuminated / The transmitter
Quebec born Ysabel LeMay’s artitic journey is itself a “Journey of Simplicity”. In 1987 she began a thriving career as a graphic artist. Seeking greater fulfillment, she made a transition into the fine arts studying painting at the Emily Carr University of Art and left In 2002 the world of corporate advertising behind, devoting full-time to her painting. In 2010 she turned her full attention to photogrpahy. Combining her technical expertise with her deep-seated roots as a painter, LeMay continues her exploration into the power and divinity of nathure through a unique process she calls “Photo-Fusion”.
At first glance, you might think you are looking at a hyper-realistic painting. However, LeMay’s innovative technique is a lengthy process during which hundreds of photographs are taken and light and visual properties are attuned. She then assembles one details at a time in a painterly fashion to form a single composition. Ysable LeMay is presently living and working in Naples Florida. (cf. artist’s bio) Great thanks to arpeggia for introducing us LeMay this Monday!
