LinYan was born to a distinguished family of artists in Beijing. She left China for Paris in 1985 before China’s modernization. She moved to New York in 1993. Her sculptural paper collage with delicate soft hand-made paper and ink creates a paradoxical affect of strong, post-industrial feeling, conveys beauty, strength, hope and resilience despite the feeling of nostalgia towards things lost, struggling, or being destroyed. LinYan’s works have been widely shown in the galleries and museums in the United States and China. Great thanks to yama-bato for this Tumblr Monday for introducing us Lin Yan’s artwork!
