Joshua Nissen King | on Tumblr (b.1987, USA)
Born in Mississippi, Joshua Nissen King is a young artist living and working in San Francisco. Depth, facade and deconstructive, he intend to express through his work an overall sense of questioning their surroundings to drop their walls and feel uncomfortable for a second or more: “We all employ defense mechanisms to guard what resides in the depths of us. Whether these façades are intentional or not they still exist. We wear many masks depending on our surroundings; we are chameleons in that sense. In my paintings, the figures get pushed back into space as flat color dictates their immediacy. The atmosphere is abstract and ambiguous, lending little information as to the context of the figure.” (Interview with artist by ARTchipel Sep-2012) Please visit his Tumblr for more work.
