Gabrielle Rose | drawgabbydraw - Watercolor, 10x14”

When watercoloring, I always make the mistake of painting the darkest colors first, and then am forced to gingerly paint around them without letting them bleed into the lighter colors I add. I need to develop better painting habits!

EDIT: Many, many times I’ve mentioned on this blog that Kay Nielsen is one of my biggest inspirations. This piece, frankly, is oozing his influence.

One of those little things I make while I’m making another bigger thing (that is a commission that isn’t very exciting). Good night!

A quick watercolor doodle before I leave town for the weekend. I have no time for anything these days (these days being, oh, just the last three days). Good night!

EDIT: Holy cats, my scanner is filthy!

I finally finished this for real by adding some more little trunks. Now I can move on to other things.

Anyone else out there in Saturday night drawing land?

Tumblr Artist

Gabrielle Rose | drawgabbydraw (USA) - Secret Garden. Watercolor, ink, colored pencil

Down-to-earth, perfectionist and thoughtful, Gabrielle Rose is a self-taught artist working and living in California. Fantastical, organic and mysterious, Gabby’s work stirs up those in-between emotions that are difficult to articulate with words. “I’ve always tried honing in on those feelings when they pop up in myself, ever since I was quite young, and the more I draw and paint the more I attempt to transfer them to the page. There’s also a connection to the (moral, emotional) ambiguity found in the best fairy tales and children’s stories. I draw upon that as well. I don’t know if I’m ultimately successful at conveying this in my work, so at the very least I want my art to be beautiful, and I want viewers to make their own inferences and connections about each piece.” Stories, fairy tales and whimsical animations are her inspirations, as is music and nature. “I also like to spend time with other artistic, creative minds.” Please visit her Tumblr for more works.
